1. Check-In & Check-Out

What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is 3 PM.
Check-out is 11 AM.

Is early check-in or late check-out available?
Yes! We will accommodate early check-in and late check-out whenever possible.

How do I access the unit (keypad, lockbox, host greeting)?
Each Chapman House accommodation has either a keypad or lockbox for self-check-in.
Our Chapman House caretakers live in the Main House on the property. They may greet guests when they happen to be available, but they are not always on-site 24/7.

What should I do if I have trouble getting in?
Each Chapman House accommodation has a keypad or lockbox for self-entry.
If you have trouble entering, please contact your host right away—we’ll respond and assist as soon as we’re aware of the issue.

2. Parking & Getting Here

Is there on-site parking?
Yes! Both Chapman Cottage and the Chapman Carriage House have designated parking on the Chapman House property. Chapman Suite parking is on the street. J Street is unmetered and parking is generally plentiful.

What’s the best way to get to the property from the Arcata/Eureka Airport (ACV)?
You can take an Uber, call a taxi (though taxis are limited at the airport), or rent a car in advance.
Arcata and Humboldt County are fairly rural, and a car is recommended if you plan to explore beaches, redwoods, and nearby towns.
Downtown Arcata and the Marsh are walkable from Chapman House, but most regional exploration requires a vehicle.

Is public transportation or bike access available nearby?
Local buses run nearby, though they’re not the most convenient way to get around.
Arcata is very bike-friendly, with marked lanes and routes throughout town. The Humboldt Bay Trail, a pedestrian and bike path, connects Arcata and Eureka—it’s safe, scenic, and easily accessible from Chapman House.

3. House Rules

Are pets allowed?
Yes! Chapman House is pet-friendly. The pet fee is $100 per stay or $100 per month for longer stays.

Is smoking or vaping permitted anywhere on the property?
No. Chapman House is a strictly non-smoking property. Smoking or vaping of any kind—indoors or outdoors—is prohibited.
Guests who smoke on the property will be asked to leave immediately without refund.

Are parties permitted?
No. Parties and events are not permitted at Chapman House.

What are the quiet hours?
To ensure the quiet enjoyment of all our guests and neighbors, quiet hours are 9 PM to 8 AM.

Are children welcome?
Yes—children are welcome, though Chapman House accommodations are best suited for two guests and do not include child-specific safety features. Parents traveling with a small child (such as an infant or toddler) are welcome to bring their own travel bed.

4. Amenities & Comfort

What kitchen amenities are provided?
Each unit is fully stocked with appliances, cookware, dishes, and utensils. Coffee is provided for the first few days of your stay, and spices are included as available in each unit.

Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes! Chapman House offers complimentary high-speed internet.

Is there laundry on-site?
Yes!
– Chapman Cottage has an in-unit washer and dryer.
– Chapman Carriage House and Chapman Suite have access to laundry facilities located in the garage beneath the Carriage House.

Are towels, linens, and toiletries provided?
Yes! Fresh linens, towels, and toiletries are provided.
For monthly stays, an initial supply of consumables is included, and guests are responsible for replenishing their own supplies thereafter.

Is there heating or air conditioning?
Yes—each accommodation has heating. Humboldt County’s coastal climate is cool year-round, and air conditioning isn’t typically needed.

5. During Your Stay

Who do I contact if I need assistance or something isn’t working?
Our Chapman House caretakers live in the Main House on the property and are happy to help with anything you need.

What should I do in case of emergency (fire, medical)?
Call 911 immediately.

How often is the property cleaned for longer stays?
For monthly stays, bi-monthly (twice-per-month) cleaning is included.

Can I request extra cleaning or linen changes?
Absolutely! We can arrange additional cleanings or linen changes for an additional fee.

6. Location & Nearby Attractions

How far is the property from:

Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary – 10–15 minutes on foot, flat and easy walk
Humboldt Bay – 5 minutes by car
Arcata Community Forest / Cal Poly Humboldt – walkable; other redwood parks are 20–60 minutes by car
Trinidad beaches – about 20 minutes by car
Downtown Arcata Plaza – walkable, ½ block to 2 blocks away

Where’s the nearest grocery store, pharmacy, or gas station?
Several options are located within easy walking distance.

7. Extended or Monthly Stays

Do you offer weekly or monthly discounts?
Yes! Chapman House offers both weekly and monthly discounts.

Are mail delivery and packages allowed?
Yes! Guests may have mail and packages delivered. We’ll deliver them to your accommodation, but we aren’t responsible for their condition or arrival. We also can’t forward mail after departure.

Is housekeeping available for long stays?
Yes! Bi-monthly cleaning is included. Additional cleanings can be arranged for a fee.

Can guests work remotely comfortably?
Yes! Chapman House has high-speed Wi-Fi. Chapman Cottage and Chapman Carriage House also include a dedicated desk or workspace.

8. Booking, Payments & Policies

What’s your cancellation policy?
You can cancel up to 30 days before arrival for a full refund, and up to 7 days before check-in for a 50% refund. After that, cancellations are non-refundable.

Please note: credit card processing fees are non-refundable, even within the cancellation window, as those fees are not recoverable from our processor. To avoid these, we suggest paying via Zelle or Venmo.

Do you require a security deposit?
For long stays, a $1,000 security deposit is required.

How are payments processed?
– Airbnb bookings: payments collected via Airbnb.
– Furnished Finder or direct bookings: payments accepted via Zelle, Venmo, or credit card.

Do you charge cleaning or service fees?
No! We absorb cleaning costs and do not charge any additional service fees.

9. Sustainability & Local Stewardship

How do you support the environment or community?
Chapman House composts, recycles, operates a 36-panel solar array, and supports local nonprofits.

10. Miscellaneous

Is the property wheelchair or mobility accessible?
Chapman House has an ADA ramp and wheelchair-accessible paths. However, as a historic property, interior accessibility may vary depending on individual needs.

Can I store luggage before check-in or after check-out?
Yes! We’re happy to hold your luggage the day of check-in or check-out. Please arrange this in advance to ensure availability.

Are there security cameras or noise monitors on-site?
Yes. There are exterior security cameras and a camera in the garage interior.

Do you allow filming or photography sessions?
No.
